I've really been thinking a lot about this. You have some excellent points already given by the two posters, but I would add peace of mind if the cabin is not in some type of development where you really trust the people. What I mean by that, is you need to have someone you trust to watch over your things.
As far as the area of the lake, I think it sounds pretty good. As a rule, one can usually count on heading south to get away from the crowds, at least to a point.
I have to admit, my ideal cabin on the lake would be on a paved lot so there would be no grass cutting, and would have security patrols. However, if you are at least in a neighborhood, you might make friends with your neighbors and they may be able to watch over the place.
As for investment, it would really depend upon the the property itself. Location, location, location, is the rule of real estate.
Good luck, let us know your decision, and let's throw one heck of a cabin warming party when you get it.... fishing is of course mandatory. LOL
Tight lines and God Bless
Danny
