Permit required on any lake if over 100 boats. Any tournament ran on waters overseen by the Forestry Dept require permit, and insurance policy.
Cumberland, Dale, Barren ect are Corps lakes. No permit required unless over 100 boats. Register them on the KDFW page under tournaments.
Cave Run, Laruel Lake are Forestry Dept owned. I'm still waiting on a permit for Laurel for March of this year. I'm told there should be no problem, but still quiet a lot of red tape, not to mention the insurance.
I'm sure other lakes in the state may have other rules, somebody else will have to chime in on those.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Don
That was what I was looking for. Thinking about putting on a charity tourney at laurel this year. Just got to put everthing together. Could be lots of work ahead.LOL Just one question on the insurance though. In a lot of the big tournies I noticed a there are usually a waiver required putting responsibility on all the boaters so what would be the purpose of the insurance and what does it cover.
Tell you what, I'm going to make a call and have Tom post on here. He has first hand experience with the Forestry Dept and running events on these lakes. This will be my first attempt in March, look for his post later today.

I'm the "Tom" Don Smith refered to in his last reply. In order to hold any type of event on US Forest property, which Laurel Lake is part of, you must have an insurance policy to obtain a permit for that event. The person you want to contact is Jay Snyder at the US Forest Service at the London KY Office. He will give you all the info on what type of policy, in what amount the policy must be, and who needs to be on that policy. His number is (606) 864-4163 ext 102. It can be difficult to get hold of Jay because he is in and out of his office every day. Their office hours are Mon - Fri 8 am to 4:30 pm. If you don't get him, levae him a message and he will return your call. Hope this helps!
