    New Discussion Board

Hey folks, check out the new Fishin.com Discussion Board. Look at the top left of the page and click on the red "Check out' the new Discusion Board".

If I am not mistaken, that is what the Fishin.com board is going to be in the neear future. So, now is your (our) chance to check it out and let Peter know what we think of it and what we would like to have or to have him do away with if you don't like something.

I like it so far but it is DIFFERENT and will take some getting used to. Just like anything else, there are a lot of changes, but that is life and what we have to put up with SO TRY IT!!

    RE: New Discussion Board

That's the V bulletin type message board software. It's very good and it's has a lot more features.

It allows you to attach pictures as HTML or as a different format. It has WYSIWYG type interface and much more.

Check it out guys. I would be very pleased if they went with that software. It's full of potential. Most other forums that I have been reading for the last several years use vbulletin or something similar.

Your Private Messages are much easier to use. And you can set up your profile to pop up on the screen a message that you have a new Private Message so that you know right away that someone just sent you a PM. The second you log onto the new software it will alert you to a new PM in your message box. The software we are using now only does that though your email.

You can still edit your posts and even use bullets such as 1 2 3 4 or dot dot dot. in front of each new paragraph or item in a list. The paragraphs can be left, right or middle of the column justified which is helpful when formatting a long post. :)

The new software is not that hard to figure out either. Just browse though the FAQ part and it will explain how to use most of the features.

Plus there are others on here that I know already use this software in other forums and they would be able to help you figure it out if you have any trouble using the new software.

I am glad that Peter is introducing it to us slowly. That's a great idea. This will give you some time to play with it before hand to see how well you like it. I think most of you will appreciate all the new features. I know that change is difficult from many of us but sometimes change is good. As long as it's done slowly most people enjoy some change.

    RE: New Discussion Board

Thanks MooseIam. You and some others know more about the functionality than I do and I appreciate your input. It has a ton of features and ad-ons that can make the fishin.com forums more engaging and useful.

Also the company that made this forum is not really providing support any more. It is basically one guy and he had to get a day job. David was a very good programer and always there to help but I guess it just took too much time for too little pay off. These vBulletin guys are on the rise and have great support. Moving to this software is an preventative move to insure the continuity of the availability of the Fishin.com boards.

Hey---no crashes since late July in this version of the board. I want to thank Grumpy as he would call me on mycell phone when the board before this one would crash! Very helpful. Thanks Grumpy.

Link to new forum is at the top left of this board.

    Peter,
A lot of sites I frequent use some similiar formats. It's safe to say a lot of folks are more familiar than we think.

Now that's just speaker from a moderator/poster point of veiw. Never had any experiences with the Admin side.

The new discussion board does not recognize me...I put in chubminnow and Chubminnow thinking it may be case sensitive or something...but no luck either way. What's up?

    RE: New Discussion Board

Below are instructions from Peter on the new board:

"If you have an existing user name prior to Dec 30 from the existing board follow the steps below.

This board does not have your password yet.
Log on as usual with your username and password. When you get the message "You have entered an invalid username or password", follow the forgotten password link and jump through the hoops to get a new password."

After your 'jump through the hoops" as Peter said, you will get an email with a nunmber password to use for the first time. After you are in the new site you can change your password to your existing one or something new if you like.

    Hope this helps,

    Grumpy
