striper report anyone?

Haven't read much striper talk lately - congrats to the guy on the home page with the 58# - a fish of a lifetime - kudos for puttin it back. If that fish was caught in July it was certainly post spawn. If I'm not mistaken, if that fish was a female add 20% to come up with pre-spawn weight? That puts that fish near world record weight! I guess from Jim's description the fish was caught in KY waters.

Got the hall pass to hit the lake this weekend. Has bait been easy to catch under lights at the docks? Heard the fish were a little slow - hopefully they'll wake up for me next weekend.

Fished all night Friday night. Caught a few throwing cranks. They were all in about 2-10 feet of water.

I never have casted for them at night during this time of year, but that's my favorite way to catch them in the spring. I've had limited success and I know SSKY has done well in the past casting bucktails on the flats during the day. I know APB has done well at night.

Do you guys basically use the same lures you would in the spring? Do you downsize to bass size cranks? Any luck with topwater - redfins etc? I'd imagine the presentation has to be slow.

Normally it's too cold this time of the year for me to fish at night. Friday night it was almost 60 degrees. We used slivers and cranked it somewhat fast. The stripers were popping the shad all night. I've talked to a few people catching them on topwater right now too. I didn't have any topwater or i would have tried.

I'm still somewhat new to striper fishing.

Subsurface stuff is usually better than surface this time of year at night. Sliver, bomber, little Mac, bucktail, those types of baits. Clay banks, or clay/shale transition are usually better. Give me a yell if you want to try it sometime...can't seem to get fishincreek out of the woods long enough to go :P

Cranked one night last week and caught my 2 in about three hours. Mid-creek on a litte mac. The daytime bite has been decent. Also mid-creek w/ most bites coming on boards w/ 25 - 35 ft. of line out and a 1/2 oz sinker. Starting to get some action on long free lines. Keep a doll fly/ lipless crank handy for the occasional surface blow up. G-luck.
