    RE: Umbrella Rig

I've been wondering just how in the heck an umbrella rig works. Judging from what they look like in the packaging, it looks like you can rig them up with ever you want to...and I'm guessing the baits attached to the umbrella rig are suppoed to represent a small school of bait fish? Is this correct Andrew?

Yep, when you troll them they imitate a school of baitfish. I wrote up a short article on how to use them a few years back. I can post that here if people are interested.

    Andrew,
would putting only one hooked jig and letting it go about a foot behind the other teasers be a good Idea.. The idea being that the "slower" bait would appear to be weaker in not keeping up with the school?

    What Equipment do you recommend?

I've been thinking about using them myself, but I would have to get some bigger rods and reels, what do you guys suggest for pulling these rigs?

I've been using Penn GTI30 reels, 30# mono, and heavy ugly stick rods.

Give me a call or drop me a line. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have on the topic. There is really too much info for me to type. The U-rig is VERY effective when used properly.
