I wasn't able to fish this past weekend but the weather sure did look great for fishing. Did anyone out there catch some this past weekend? I thought for sure I was going to read about some great trips on the board today. What's up?

You wouldn't believe me if I told you the way I caught fish this weekend. A good buddy and myself decided to go hit an old BIG pond over the weekend while it was warm. Mainly just to try some new baits we've acquired so far in the off season and see if we could get a bite. The water was very stained so I thought the bite would be tough. In my past experiences colder muddy water has to be the hardest to fish. I started off fishing a shaky head worm just begging for a bite. Fished for about a half hour with no bites. Tried a jig and got a keeper that was on some schooling bluegill. My buddy had a new chatterbait tied on and decided to try it. And they ate it up. These fish were dying to chase something. I decided to try something they could chase so I threw a jerkbait. The faster I cranked that thing in the more bites I got. I mean really burning it up with a 6:3 ratio. I also threw a crankbait. The only way they would bite it is if I reeled so fast the thing was coming out of the water. This is definetly what you would call reaction strikes. This is something I've only experienced in warm water. Just goes to show how unpredictable things can be at times.
Went to Guist Creek 1/7. Water a little on the high side; couldn't tell you the number of feet. Water temp 47° - 49°. We didn't do any good all day and didn't see anybody else out there catching anything. Stopped to chat with the guy at the marina after I pulled my boat out, and as we were standing there, one of the regulars pulled up with two beautiful hybrid stripers, one 9 lbs 14 oz, the other 10 lb. 12 oz. I know there are much bigger ones out there, but I'm new to this whole striper fishing thing, and had never seen hybrids before, so yes, I was impressed! These two were caught on deeply trolled shiners, about 20 ft. deep in 40 ft. of water. I've been researching this method ever since, and I'm planning on going out next time I can (Thursday, I hope) to give it a try!
Good Luck Everybody!
