What makes a great Tube bait

I am looking for info from all my fellow fisherman/women on what it takes to make a great tube bait. What does it take for you to look at a tube on the shelf and buy it. Considering opening a manufacturing company and looking for input from the guys and gals I fish with.

    I appreciate the responses,
    Marty

RE: What makes a great Tube bait

I look for a tube bait that will somehow resemble the baitfish that the Bass are feeding on, type, size and sometimes color will have a lot to do with my selections. I also like a soft bodied Tube that the hook will come thru with the least amount of hook set...Some tubes are more heavy duty and thicker, which would require a heavier hook set... Just MHO....

    MSG,

There are 4 types of plastic that tubes are made of. One type is what 95% of all manufacturers use. So think of all the major manufacturers out there and they are using that type. I have access to a type that holds the hook but floats. So imagine a tube that you texas rig and would stand straight up. Would that catch your attention? Thanks for your input.

Marty, in my opinion if you would put three to a bag, charge $10.00 per bag and use the word "LUCKY" somewhere in the title and let everyone know they are hard to find you would sale a ton of them. Just my opinion :) Best of luck with your company . Jarrod

    Jarrod,

How have ya been. Been doing any fishin? If that was all it would take hell I be a millionaire by now. I will probably sell in bulk instead of the 5 - 10 a bag.
Take Care and see ya on the water,

    RudeZ20,

I bought some of those tube jigs that stand up and float, built with air pockets in them...There great, they do exactly as the MFG. said they would...I really like them a lot and use them on drop shot rigs at times....Fishing them especially on spawning bass, Bass think they are a hungry fish looking to steal their eggs and they just nail the tubes...

Soft natural texture with real crawfish and garlic scents cooked into the tube. Pick up a bag of Hook Some Bass tubes and you will know exactly what I mean.

If you can find some SNOOZERS tubes and copy them, especially the tapered shape, you will have the perfect tube (in my opinion). I could be wrong, but I think the guy that makes "Hooked Some Bass" tubes is the same one that made the Snoozers, so I agree with Dave. Either way, both are good tubes to copy (if that is the right word).

The guy that makes the Hook Some Bass tubes is not the same as the guy that made the Snoozer's tubes...but it is basically the same tube. The tubes are hand dipped and come from the same source and the scents are "cooked" into them the same way.

    Dave,

Has James come out with a trailer yet? What about his website or catalog that he has been working on for a while now? HSB are the best plastics, love their tubes and lizards(Brush Hounds) and he makes a pretty good spinnerbait also.

Elwood...he has had trailers for quite some time now. No website..no catalog. No doubt his lures are top notch or I would not be using them in my guide service...wish the customer service was half as good as the lures...hopefully that will improve this season.

    Marty,

Nice talking to you last night.

The tube market is pretty saturated, so they'd have to be aggressively priced with superior performance. Like another poster pointed out, my knock on most tubes is they're way too hard. Softer tubes, although lighter and less resilient, make for far better hookups.

A tube jig is a go to for me, if you can't catch a fish on a tube jig it's prolly gonna be a long day. My favorite brand is Cabin Creek, but I fished an HSB with Elnut, and they are very nice. Hawg Slop tubes are also good IMO, RedneckSR from this board tipped me to them. 4 inch tubes from Zoom are soft and work great too.

The biggest problem would be distribution. I think you'd have to somehow make them accessible to a lot of anglers in a cost effective manner. If your tube gained some notoriety or some serious ad money was spent, distributing thru the internet could fly. Renting shopping cart based web space is very affordable.

It all comes back to how well they perform. Make some and I'll be a beta tester. Email or call me. I'll give them a whirl, and you some honest feedback.
