RE: What makes a great Tube bait

Marty: I certainly did not mean to hijack your post here. Maybe from some of the conversation it will give you an idea of what some folks are looking for in a tube anyway. Feel free to call me anytime and I will give you my opinion on tubes...and if you come up with something new and good I would be happy to try them out.

RE: What makes a great Tube bait

My personal preferance is the Bass Pro Shops brand 4" tube. I like the durability of these tubes. I've always had decent luck with them holding up and catching fish. The snoozer tubes are great also, but I end up alot of times having to change hook size when I switch to a snoozer on texas rig. I usually use a 3/0 gamakatsu XWG worm hook. Its too big for the regular sized tubes. Any suggestions on hook size or what works best for the Hook Some Bass tubes Dave?

    Good Luck on your bait

RE: What makes a great Tube bait

    Dave,

Well I guess I'm on the right track, it just seemed the 3/0 EWG was a little much for the tube. It seemed to push through right at the start of the skirt. I wasn't aware of the larger sized HSB tubes. I will be looking for them when the Cabin opens up. Thanks again. Do you fish your tubes on a tube jig head with the weight inside the tube, and what advantages/disadvantages does rigging like that have over a normal texas rig?

I will fish them both ways...with a jig head in the tube and Texas rigged. I find normally the Texas rig works fine but there are times when the fish want that tube right along the bottom so I will use the tube jig head at that time. Also, here is a trick you might try if you have not tried it...use a pro series Slider Head on the tube. The triangle shaped head will give the tube more action on the fall..fish it with the wieght on the outside of the tube and texpose the hook.

Although it makes it less bouyant, I like salt IMPREGNATED, not salt sprinkled on it. Thats just what I have confidence in.

RE: What makes a great Tube bait

Marty I have used HSB tubes and they are nice baits. They are a bit too hard but I love the fact that they cook in the scent. When I take everything out of my boat for the year and put it in the basement my wife walks in the front door and asks what is that God awful smell. I had to put them in a trash bag and tape them up in a cardboard box to keep the smell down.

They are a lot cheaper than any other bait and you can buy in bulk. They also make a very good baby brush hound, (same as baby brush hog) spinnerbait, senko and jig.

Like Dave said there customer service is not great but they do make a great bait.

If you make a bait as good or better and want to sell them you could win me over with better customer service. Not a knock on anyone or trying to give anyone a free advertisement, but that is just my H.O. from a customer standpoint.

Good luck and let us know if you go into business. Ryan
