HELP! With cleaning Oxizided fiberglass

Anyone have any pointers or Idea's on what the best way to clean oxizided fiberglass. Boat is not too bad would just like to get the shine back.

Checkout Polyglow on the web, i'm in the process of doing mine this week, have done the prep work, now ready to put on the Polyglow. This is a clear polymer formula, not like a sprayed on clearcoat, and way less expensive. My boat is an 87, and has seen plenty of sun, but i think this stuff is gonna make it look good again. I'll try to let ya know how it turns out.

My 88 searay was terrible. I wet sanded with 1200 and buffed it then waxed it real good. Its looked great for a year. All the topigraphical fixes in the world wont fill the tiny pin holes that cause the oxidation. Only sanding with wet sand paper seems to work. As long as you do it lightly, you wont have any problems. If you use too low a grit, it can cut right through to the fiberglass

I'v been thinking of using PolyGlow on my boat. Just wonder how well it would work. Was the prep difficult? Please post the result that you have obtained.

The prep is no worse than a good washing, you just use the prep solvent and a scrub pad that comes with the kit. I have that portion done, now just have to apply the poliglow, it goes on with a soft applicator supplied in the kit. It says to get the best results, you may need to apply several coats, but it just wipes on like water, so it shouldn't be too bad to do.

I did mine two years ago and it still looks good.
Started with 1500 grit sandpaper WET
went to 2000 grit WET
Then using a high speed buffer and 3M Perfect-it III, buffed it out. It was a lot of work but definately worth it.

The buffer is the key, you want to run it fast enough to keep up with it, but not too fast. Mine has a speed adjustment and I kept it on 2.

Just make sure it doesn't build up too much friction. I'ts easier than it sounds. Once you are done a good coat of wax and thats it.

One other thing, the little hand held electric waxer wont work, you need the buffer.

I know American Boat and Yacht in Jeffersonville does it, that is one of his specialties. I have seen some of the boats they have re-done and they looked like new. He did some fiberglass work on my boat and it looked awesome.

I have used American Boat (ask for Guy) and they do good work. I have also used R&R in Prospect (ask for Randy) they did an excellent job for half the money. They both do excellent work and stand behind it, I would find the one that gave me the best price.

Posting with results ! I did take Fishumup's advice and do some sanding on the top cap of the boat, as it was the worst, but after the cleaning with the prep and light sanding, just to get the crud off, i then applied the Poliglow. This stuff is great, my old tub shines like new, and with very little effort. If it holds up it will be the greatest thing since hot water !!!. Yea you could do the sanding and buffing and waxing, but this is less than half the work with, in my opinion, alot more shine than wax could ever give ya.Plus if ya don't have a buffer, or don't know how to use one, you can do more harm than good. If ya don't want the expense of paying to have it done, i think the Poliglow is gonna be a good option.Even though the kit is about $70, i bet its a lot cheaper than paying someone to do it ! Good Luck with whatever you choose, but the Poliglow is sooooooo easy!
