    Hey Grumpy???

    You said you have a dual pro onboard charger in your boat, I do as well. My question is this after the red lights all go to the single green indicating 100% charge does your charger turn itself off meaning, no hum or no lights at all showing or does it continue to hum and show a green light charge? The reason I ask, is their website semi-indicates that the charger completley shuts down with no trickle charge taking place, if it's still on and humming how can it not be giving the battery some juice, does this seem strange or maybe I'm off base.

    RE: Hey Grumpy???

    My understanding is that when the green light comes on, the battery is fully charged and the CHARGER is on "standby". When mine has the green lights showing there is only a very faint hum. The unit's red or green lights are always on when the unit is plugged in. I am **** sure NOT an electronics expert, but I would think that the DUAL PRO will need electricity to run the lights and whatever monitors the batteries (thus the hum) and still be in a standby mode without sending any juice to the batteries.

    Based on conversations with the guy that sold me my boat, a couple of (long ago) emails with DUAL PRO, and the DUAL PRO web site, my understanding is that after the batteries reach full charge, the unit goes to standby WITHOUT any trickle charge. If and/or when the batteries fall below a certain level of charge (which I don't remember) then the DUAL PRO starts charging again and the red lights come back on until the battery is fully charged. A couple of times over the years, I have checked on the DUAL PRO while everything was still hooked up and the red lights were on. I left it alone and checked back later and the green lights were on, so I assumed that it had been charging and then shut off again.

    Hope this helps.

    Wanted to see if mine was operating in the same fashion as yours, and after hearing your explanation I can say that it is doing exactly as you have said yours is. Kinda puts my mind at ease, thanks for the info Mr. Grumpy, tightlines to ya.

    RE: Hey Grumpy???

    You are welcome. I honestly believe that the DUAL PRO, which does not have a trickle charge, has actually helped to prolong the life of my batteries. I got about five years on my first set. They were still working when I bought new ones--I just thought it was a good time to get new ones before I got stranded on the water with a dead battery. BTW, I hook up my DUAL PRO as soon as I get home from fishing and leave it plugged in all the time I am not on the road.

    Hey Guys;
    Not to highjack your thread here. but i just want to add that Dual Pro(Charging Systems International) is one of the most friendly and helpful companies i have ever done business with. I had a problem with my charger, it was already out of warranty, but they warrantied it anyway without me even asking, these guys are great imo.

    RE: Hey Grumpy???

    I have heard the same thing from other people--that they fix a problem regarless of the age of the unit. I have not had any problems but it helps to know that if I do, they will fix it. I have certainly already gotten my money's worth.

    Thanks for the input.

    RE: Hey Grumpy???

    I had a problem with my Dual Pro as well. Called C.S.I. and was told to mail unit to them and they would send me a new one. Got the new one within 5-7 days. This happened twice by the way. But they were very easy to deal with. Have heard that the 2 bank units had problems and would just quit working, which is what mine did. Was told that the 3 bank had not had this problem.
