Early to mid April thru June is a good time to get after the 'eyes on Paintsville. I mostly use a 1/16 or 1/8 round jig head with half a nightcrawler. Work the jig slow along the bottom near tree tops and weedlines. The 'eyes bite pretty lite (usually feel a slight "tic" in the line, wait a couple seconds after the "tic" and let em have it!) You may need to use a short plastic grub to rig the jig up to be weedless. Crankbaits (#5 & #7 shadraps) are also good. I like throwin cranks along the banks after dark.
while fishing bass tournaments in late march and early april we have caught some good walleye using crankbaits that run about 10' to 12' deep.my fishing partner caught a 4 1/2 pounder last year the first week of april using a shadrap.
