Hybrids in Cumberland.........

I may be wrong but i'm sure i was catching some nice hybrids already at cuberland about 6 years ago down rigging for stripers.I have been with two different guids and and both said,without mentioning one to the other,that the rule of thumb with guids is to follow striper regulations for both to eliminate hassles.The ones we caught were in the 45 foot range by pleasant point ramp to lilly creek.now if they are there they are better in warm water so they should remain in good shape shouldn't they?We caught many in the 4 years i was going regularly,they had the stocky body and broken lines so they must have been hybrids,i was never checked but we did keep them as hybrids.Hope i didn't do something wrong we went by hybrid regulations.

Hybrids have never been stocked into Cumberland. There are no feeder creeks/rivers to Cumberland that have Hybrids. Even if a few people were illegally stocking them there, there would not be enough to make a population of them that you could catch them regularily. When small, Hybrids, White Bass, and Stripers can be hard to tell apart. My advice is to release all "Hybrids" from Cumberland that are under 24 inches in length and to keep no more than 2. Fish and Game knows what they look like.

A true striped bass will generally have two patches of teeth on the base of the tongue.

As do Hybrids. White Bass have one patch of teeth on the tongue. Good idea on downloading the fish ID booklet. I know there are a few out there that confuse me!

I now about the teeth too,i had always been a bass fisherman and crappie,if i caught anything else it went back for a swim,bass did too.I then started fishing with an older man i met at work and with with him and a guid friend of his,i never been back since i heard of the teeth thing,i looked back at some of the pics and they look like hybrids so it shows you need to know the other identification methods..thanks for the help,they were all about 19 inchers or so,glad i didn't caught i don't break rules heck i don't keep crappie unless there 10 or better at nolin and rough but one them may have grown up to be a 50lber.

Just have the same regs as stripers- 2 fish 24" long and it would be ok. Otherwise small stripers get put on ice.

I like that Idea, it makes the most sense. Wow 24 inch hybrids, Yeahaaaa. You might have to go to see the chiropractor after an all day of catching them dudes. Something about mixing stripes and whites makes em mean.......
