Re: Tell me a fishing story, true or not

My first trip to Bull Shoals to fish for those old brown fish was 25+ years ago. There was a group from here that had been going to Bull Shoals for several years, two of them asked my fishing partner and me to come down and they would show us how to catch smallmouth in clear water.

The trip was around the first of April, four of them went down about three days before we could get there. When we arrived on Sat night they had every one at the cabin for dinner that night. They told us the fish were biting and that Dave K and Dave F would take us out tomorrow and guide us since they had the hot hand. Neither Dave knew us nor did they know they were going to baby sit us.

We decided to leave at 7:00 from the boat dock however Dave F said he was not leaving until he had suntan lotion because it was 75 and sunny and he was sunburned. I assured him I had suntan lotion in the boat. He said he would not leave until he saw it. Then they departed the cabin where we were staying to go to there efficiency cabin. When we awoke the next morning we had about two inches of snow on the ground and still snowing. We got dressed and went to the boat dock met our new acquaintance’s. As we were backing out of the slip I hollered for them to stop. I then got in the glove compartment got out the suntan lotion and threw it to there boat. After Dave F was through cursing me and Dave K was done laughing we headed out and I found out cold fronts don’t bother smallmouth like it does largemouth we fished until about 3:00 that day and caught several fish. But most important we forged a great friendship that has lasted many years. Last March about a month before our spring fling Dave K passed away.

Elnut you will be back at them in May cherish every trip because life is too short to waste a minute.

Re: Tell me a fishing story, true or not

You guys go ahead and kick a depressed non fishing guy a little further down the ladder than he already is with all this talk of catching my 12 pounder. I will show both of you that 8 surgeries in 9 years (except for one knee surgery in 2002 all other 8 have been abdominal), 4 surgeries in the past 33 months, 16 admissions to St. Joe hospital (spent a total of 177 days in that place since 1998), 52 different incisions and no telling how many staples (52 were taken out today alone) will not stand in the way of me and my 12 pound quest. I guess as long as I can breathe then there is still a chance to land the big girl.

On a serious note, thanks for all the post for I am having a really hard time mentally and physically with this one. One thing not to have on your resume is plenty of experience in recovering from abdominal surgery, but I do have that. About as depressed as one individual can get with my personal issues but more importantly what my sister and her husband is going thru with his fight with Cancer. Some may remember my post a few months back, long story short, several Chemo treatments no luck, experiemental treatment at Vanderbilt University by the FDA - no luck, now he is back in Lexington for more treatment and another huge tumor was found Monday in his Stomache and Esophogus, plus what was already in his lungs and liver. Not looking good for them and makes it really tough to stay positive on so many fronts.
