I haven't had a chance to go hard water fishing just yet. I'm going early next week. Just wondering how thick the ice is? I'm hoping to get on Lake Waveland, as I live in west central In. Thanks.

We in southern IN have about 5 "
8"+ at Summit
Large deep water lakes are not as frozen as shallow dishpan small lakes or ponds.
Also remember that water flowing into a lake or pond can disrupt the ice formation and the water near a flow can be thinner than the rest of a lake.
And springs under a lake can thin the ice as well.
Since we have had an extended freeze here in Southern IN the ice should be thick enough on most small ponds. Just be careful and check the ice thickness in a few places to make sure it's safe.
Also might not be a bad idea to throw some matches, Towels, blankets and an extra set of cloths in the truck just in case.
I saw on TV there other day where the fire dept was practicing ice rescues on the local frozen lake somewhere. But it takes them forever to get to the scene and then to suit up. So just be careful on that ice and stay safe.
Remember that the shallow areas of a lake can have thick ice while the more open and deeper areas may have much thinner ice.
One nice thing about having good ice without snow is that the lakes clear up and you can see though the ice and look at the bottom of the lake. Unless there is snow on the ice.
