Find some shade and use a plain duckfeather. Stay back away as far as you can... I had luck the other day fishing a 10' leader.
Duck with a little purple or Red in it works well for me on sunny days and of course plain duck. I have also had sucess with just white craft hair.
High Blue Skies and clear water is Craft Hair white and Pink for me. Use dope this time of the year to dilute the action and fish SLOW, VERY SLOW. Duck Feather with Red is my second choice again with dope fished SLOW, VERY SLOW. Good Luck and catch one for me.
Do any of you on the sunny/partly sunny days fish banks that are not in the shade? I haven't but sometimes it's hard to find shade in the middle of the day.
I find that boat position maybe the bigger factor rather than color. THe farther back off ANY bank the better chance you have for a hookup.
I would prefer shaded banks 10:1 also. In Dale and Cumberland you can always find shade somewhere. May not be where you want it, but it'll be somewhere.
Blue/Gray Crafthair combo...
Duckfeather/Red..
DuckFeather/Chart/Chart Grn.

I play the shade 100% of the time in December and January during a normal winter and don't consider it at all in February and actually fish the sunny bluffs more than shade in February. During a normal winter the fish are so cold so long that by the time Feb rolls around and the temp has been in the low 40's for so long, the sun will heat up the rock on the bluffs to a point that I have paralelled(sp) them with my cast actually banking off the rock to the point it is right next to the bluff. I will reel it in all along the bluff back to the boat move forward and do it again. I think the water temp against the bluff is a couple of degrees warmer than the rest and the fish are right up against it getting a bit warmer is my theory. Whatever the reason it has produced for me in the past in late February and early March. I will say that depth and presentation is still MORE important than the actual color but color is just a confidence thing for me. Certain colors have produced in the past and I fish them more accurately when they are tied on my line.
What depth do you do best on this time of the year?
Well Went to Laurel today and Had NO LUCK AT ALL!!!!! I had one pulldown with no hookup. Fished many diffrent places and many diffrent banks, I had the pulldown on a shady gravel bank and tried to focus on those with no sucess. My buddy actually snagged a 10 pound carp casting a silver buddy later on in the day. Water temps were 41-43 launched outta grove marina and fished up river then all the way back down past the dam. Graphed alot of fish in 40-100ft water suspended . Even though I didnt catch anything It was still better than working and sitting at the house.
If we get some warm rain the fish will move up in the creeks. The fishing is at the low point right now, it will only get better from now on. I got skunked Saturday also, first time in a long time but I will make up for it in a week or so.
We fished Laurel Sunday. Hoped to catch fnf fish. Ended up catching 1 spot on a jigging spoon in about 30 foot. Easy13 and his buddy were down there as well. They had 3 total. One of their fish was a 19" smallie. Warmest water we found was pushing 45 degrees.
Nice report...
Those Bluebird skies will slam you at times. Alot of folks bringing fish to hand via a blade....
