Get the 9' 6", you need the length to handle longer leaders sometimes. I have the 9'6" and its not a G-Loomis by any means but it does a pretty good job for this beginner.

I've read so much about it on this board, I've just gotta give it a shot. I wish I could join you guys on that weekend seminar, but I have to work. Anyway, I'm planning on a 2-day trip to Dale Hollow, going with a guide the first day. I have two questions:
1) Any recommendations on a guide? I picked up pamphlets for several at the boat show, and there are plenty listed online, but I really have no clue who to go with.
2) BPS has their Micro-Lite Float 'n' Fly rods on sale for $29.99, and there's a weight balance kit for $9.99. Have any of you guys tried these? I was thinking about getting a couple, and I'd appreciate any comments on them. Should I go with the 8', 8'6", or 9'6"?

I use a 12 foot the Longer the better when casting and setting the hook. If you have a 12 to 15' leader your will appreciate the extra length. JMHO

I bought the 9'6" FnF Rod at BPS and it works fine. I had the balance weights for another rod but so far I haven't used them because the FnF rod is pretty well balanced. Go across the river to the Clarksville BPS and try the rod with a reel that you would use. They were very helpful when I went. The marked price is $39.95 but tell them you saw it on sale in the catalog and you will get the sale price. Also, at the store you can get all the FnF stuff you need and its cheaper then buying the kit, especially if you don't try to load up on jigs. I have been out four times with the rig and haven't lost any of it yet (even though I have put it in the trees a couple of times). One other thing, that rod comes in two pieces and even when broken down they are still pretty long so get a couple of small velcro straps to hold them together when its in the boat.
If you want to get a bunch of good info on FnF, go to Jim Dicken's site:

It's very helpful. Now you just have to wait for the ice to melt.![]()
