    Habitat for Barren

Back in 2004, a buncha local folks got together and placed 125 fish attractors in the lake. Richardson, Manley and myself helped kick this off.
Eric Cummins at the district office of KDFWR in Bowling Green has asked us to join all the local folks again at putting out the habitat they have gathered up. They will meet at the Peninsula Marina/Ramp at 9 am. Last time took about 3 to 4 hours to place all the attractors. Most of us were headed home by about noon or 1 pm, so you should be home in time for the Classic weigh-in. This is an excellent project for youth to be involved.
I have sent out emails to most everyone involved in 94 and some new hopefuls.
This is a project that can be done selfishly and still benefit all. I will be there with some of our Jr club as well as with some of our adult.
The cement blocks are on the ramp that morning as well as stakes telewire and skids. We hopefully will have permission to cut cedar sapling smaller that 2" AND HERE IS THE GREAT PART Put them in your spots. the river and way up the creeks wont be an option unless you drive your truck around and pack them as some did last year. If anyone can spare some time or spare a pontoon boat for a few hours this is a great cause.
things to bring mud boots ,Hammer, saw, pliers, wire cutters, gloves. You dont have to be a fisherman to do this.
Rodney Hoffman..Region 3 Director... It is easier to build a child than repair an adult... God bless

    Nice job Hoffman.

BTW, he means region 3 director for the Kentucky Bass Federation.

There's actually some pretty good Corps folks up there at the big B. They've really turned around the last few years far as their attitudes toward the fish population. Last time we had a shindig like this they let wire, concrete blocks, wood, etc be stored on Corps property, and pitched in and worked when we planted it.

I'll be there if at all possible. Sure was nippy out there back in '04, but we had a great turnout. KDFWR, Bass clubs, Corps people, Biologists, politicians, regular folks... all out for a common cause. I'm misting up just thinking about it.

I've donated a bunch of habitat to this project. KDFWR is coming to some land that I manage this Friday to cut down cedars for Brush pile projects. I've told them to take as many as they want.

Congrats on helping out basswipe. Looks like the side of that house and the pickup in your avatar could be planted for fish structure. Hope that wasn't you driving.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great thing to be doing anytime. But I always wondered why someone doesn't organize something of this sort shortly after Christmas, when small trees are so plentiful. Just curious....

I used to live in Illinois for a short period the Conservation Dept made this a yearly practice..collecting the trees and then about end of feb they would place them....very cool... they even built little reefs wth them.
