When I went ice fishing in Indiana, I used maggots attached to a tiny jig about a foot off the bottom. Caught some really nice Bluegills and crappie, sometimes some guys would catch a nice Bass this way...Really awesome catching fish on two pound test line thru the ice..... Even took a Keroscene heater out on the ice with us...If you got the clothes and boots to keep you warm, you can fish for hours...Weird thing was, when you caught a fish and unhooked it, threw it on top of the ice, it would freeze solid, then when you got home to thaw them out to clean, they would come back to life...Totally weird...... and awesome as well.....
