    Cool Ice Fishing In Lexington

We went out today and hacked through 5-8 inches of ice and fished over 7-15 foot of water. This was my first trip like this and it was a blast. The snow came down pretty hard at times. No fish were caught but we had one flag pop up from a bite. If i knew how to post the pics i would.

The one pic looks like someone was fishing for "redeyes", but the fun is all that counts.

Kentucky Afield had a segment on about ice fishing in a farm pond this weekend...they were using jigs. What they were doing was dropping their jigs to the bottom and then lifting them up a foot or two above bottom and then started jigging...they caught a couple. You might want to try it out if the minnow bite seems slow.

It looked to me like they were jigging too aggressively and that might be why they only caught a couple. It seems the line with the minnow that they left unattended did the best. It's like the FnF, you need to just barely wiggle the bait.

Fishgurl - Now that you mention it, it did seem like they were jigging sort of fast...Rule of thumb is the colder the water the slower the presentation. Good eye Fishgurl. The one thing I did learn (if I ever go ice fishing) is to bring the fish up easily once it reaches the top.

Hey...also on the show, didn't they have a volunteer catfish jump up out of the ice hole?

Ha ha i wondered if anyone would catch that! I think Chubminnow had a point about the jig we thought about that but never went to the house to get another rod.
