Hope you have better luck than I did. Bought a brand new Interstate Deep Cycle in August of 2004 and it slowly but surely held less and less of a charge over the next 3 months, took it back and exchanged it and it did the exact same thing. I did everything like the manufacturer suggests and I charge my batteries immediately after every use and keep them hooked to my on board charger. Switched to Carquest Gold Deep Cycle and LOVE them. This is all I will ever have in my boat. They have NEVER ran out of juice even after 12 -14 hours on the water with my Deep V, my big behind and all my tackle still running strong.

I'am totally confused with all the battery and charger talk , I know that everybody has success stories with all the different brands and types, I am in limbo with the possibility of my charger(s) frying my TM battery (OPTIMA, 3yr old, ouch!) the on-board charger is a Quest single bank 6amp charger, my portable charger is 10 amp manual / automatic. I'am really considering tossing
both chargers and start all over again including the battery(fryed), I am all about the proper means of maintance however something is not working here. I personally feel that it is the charger(s) ,does anyone no what amp output that these charger should read or a simple type of test to try? any suggestion on purchasing a portable charger brand and type. feel free to advise.
