I'll also be at Cumberland Sat. Going to the lower end to try and find some clean water for walleye and stripers. I'll be in a maroon and white Nitro with a big rod rack on the back. Look me up and say hey. Love to put some faces with the names

    Re: Laurel Lake Walleye?

Hello All. I just joined this forum last week. I am a big fan of Laurel Lake and am still trying to figure out how to fish this lake for walleye. I do really well every year with the rainbow trout catching my limit and few 5+ lbs. fish. I've been night fishing 3 times this spring for walleye and was very unsuccessful. Any pointers would really help. I drive 3 hours to fish this lake and it can get really frustrating when it comes to catching walleyes.

    Question Re: Laurel Lake Walleye?

It's "odd" but I can go to Lake Cumberland and catch walleyes no problem but whatever "the secret" is on Laurel most aren't talking ....

We'll (family and myself) keep after them and IF we ever figure out anything on the Laurel 'eyes happily pass it along.

    Re: Laurel Lake Walleye?

I know a couple of guys that have fair luck. They use jigs tipped with large minnows and crankbaits in the mouths of timber coves. They have said that the best times are at day light and dark. I have also heard that line creek is a good starting point. Hope this helps.....Good Luck

    Re: Laurel Lake Walleye?

Well (as promised) I will tell you what little we've found out . We finally broke the "Laurel 'eye jinx" oldest son managed a short 'eye (14 1/2") off a "stair step point" on a shad rap....... We lost a few more, (mainly due to the excitement of finally getting them found and biting)

Not much help I know, but "something" at least.

if you ever fished for striper at night, in the spring. then go to laurel lake, down near the dam. a mile or so in both directions. the lake forks at the dam. it's like a v shape.and fish for walleyes, the same way. when the water gets warm enough for the shad to spawn. from the mid 60's to the mid 70's the shad come to the banks to spawn, around rock points, and cliff banks. and the walleye comes up and feeds on them. use top water baits. redfins, bommers. spooks, jerk baits, slivers, and reco's. in late spring when the top water bite stops. use bottom bouncers with floating harness rigged with live night crawlers. around the front of the stickups. and if you don't care where you put your boat, the walleye holds up back in the stickups. and if for some reason the walleye are not doing their thing. it's just about 15 minutes to london dock on lake cumberland. and the walleye and striper both are their. but be careful at london dock, the lake is down and their are big rocks just under the surface. thats the best info. i can give you. so make sure you have a big net with you.

    Re: Laurel Lake Walleye?

I remember reading an article on Laurel several years ago somewhere that said that over 90 percent of the Walleye surveyed during the day were in the timber on the lake. I fished it once when I was a teenager during the summer at night 10 or so years ago. We tied up on a long point and dropped some shiners over the boat where the fish were on the graph and caught 2 nice walleye, 1 nice smallmouth, 2 nice trout and something huge broke us off near the bank striper or catfish prob. Hope this helps some.
