Just got back last night. We spent 3 days of fishing on Toho. When we got there last Friday a Major cold front had moved in. Water temps dropped from68 degrees to 56-58 degrees. This had a major affect on the fish. I saw plenty of nests for the spawn but not a single fish anywhere near them. The first day of fishing I thought was going to be ok. we started at the main dock at the north west side of the lake. Caught 2 fish on June bug lizard in the first hour then nothing for the rest of the day.
On day 2 there were wind advisories for the lakes. 25 to 35mph winds. So we fished a feeder creek on the west side of the lake to escape the wind. Again Nothing. We fished there until 3:00 then hit the East side of the lake in Gobbletts cove. We couldnt have bought a bite.
On day three we fished using Shiners. After all, "we did go to catch fish!!" It drove me insane to sit and watch a bobber but it paid off in the end. We managed to boat 3 Bass 1@ 4 pounds, 1@ 5 1/2 pounds and 1@ 6 pounds. We also caught 2 Bowfin fish 1@4 pounds and the other @ 9 pounds.
I guess we took the cold weather with us down there and brought the warm weather back with us. Oh Well... Thats why they call it fishin and not catchin. The only advice that I have for anyone that is going soon is dont be to stubborn like me about fishing artificial baits. If you dont catch anything soon Go Get Some Shiners. $100 for 6 dozen, some bobbers and some weedless hooks.
A 9lb Mudfish? That's a Hoss! They sure do twist alot when trying to get the hook out. Too bad about the cold front, so you tried Shingle Creek?
