one word *****ESPN gets a big fat "F" for their broadcasting of this years Classic. All ESPN (Direct TV ch 209) showed was coverage from the previous day. VERY little actual up to date footage. Alot of good their 13 camera boats and helicopter did we when 90% of what I saw was old news. Next year give to FOX....they know what "live coverage" means.
An angry viewer.
Not only was the coverage on tv bad but I could hardly find anything on the net about it either. Thanks to bassfan I was at least able to find out some info.
A couple of years ago on the Ohio I thought it was overkill big time but this year it was almost nonexistant. I wish they would get thier crap together.
I thought the online coverage was pretty good. You could watch it live on Bassmaster.com.
I was really dissapointed to see them re-hash segments they filmed over a year ago, and then replay the same 3-4 minute clips each day about the weather conditions and Icanelli. My background before boats was in Television production with the local stations in Cincinnati, and you don't replay segments like that more than once, it's a big no-no. It tells me that ESPN is cutting budgets big time and trying not to produce anything original.
Matt
I think ESPN bought BASS so they could control how big they got. I say they are going to do the samething with Nascar. Although Nascar may be to big for them to downsize. They didn't have a clip off the Jr. Championship, Casting Kids and just a little of the WBT. all they could show was the G man running past Howell. The web coverage was terrible too.
F is too high.
What about the prize money, maybe it is just me but to go from a half mill for first place to, 45k for second? That doesn't seem right, but I guess it sounds good for television.
The coverage sucked. ESPN dropped the ball this year. I don't understand how they can not show at least the weigh ins live of a world championship. This is not just another tournament. ESPN sucked, our paper gave it 1 paragraph, and our news station gave it no mention. Anyone who doesn't like fishing ***** too.
Ok guys think about it. You can't expect coverage on the water to be live. First it would be hard to put ALL the equipment in a bass boat... Thus clips and pieces. Wait until the show airs and it will look more like what you are used to seeing. Don't get me wrong I think espn is not looking out for what is best for BASS but something like that would be impossible to cover live from boat to boat. Hey just remember how the FLW covered the Forrest Wood Open.......uh NO coverage
You think the coverage was bad, you should have been there, went down, WILL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER ONE, of course until Im fishing in it....LMAO
Of course it may not do any good, but at ESPN.com there is a section at the bottom of the page "contact us" where you can leave comments/concerns/feedback. Maybe it would make a difference in the coverage for next years classic if they knew most of the anglers were upset. Just a thought...
Blessed Fishin,

Buzzking, What was so bad when you were there? I have been on several occasions and loved it. I was planning on being there this year, but some things came up. I would like to know what type of things were wrong.
Didn't like 4 hours of weigh-in to get 25 people across the stage, along with a few other things that I don't feel like typing a few pages about. It just wasn't my cup of tea, I would rather go fishing than watch that dog and pny show
