Hey ,
Found the web site to buy lake permits -
http://estore.dnr.state.in.us/tek9.a...cific=jrqmrnj0
I still dont like it but what can you do ?
Tight lines
PS - I just purchased my permit and the state added $4.00 shipping to it AFTER I had paid , the total at checkout didnt show it and thats got me POed ! I would have stopped at a DNR office on the way to the lake and used the $4 to buy minnows ! So be careful when buying .

Thanks for the heads up. $4 will buy a lot of minnows. If you are from Evansville or on the NE side of Evansville there is a good place to buy minnows at the Evansville Worm Ranch. They have minnows of various sizes and will sort them out for you if you ask. And if they have rosy reds in stock give them a try for crappie. On some days they work better than regular minnows. chubs. They also have larger shiners as well. I like the 1" to 2" sized minnow and usually will by the chubs or Rosy reds if they are available.
The worm ranch is located on Old Boonville Highway south of the new Lynch Road bypass and north of Telephone Rd intersection. It's on the Right side of the road as you head NE up Old Boonville Highway from Burkardt road.
This is a WHOLESALE Bait shop that sells bait to most of the local retail bait shops. You can by crickets, worms, be-moths, night crawlers. Koi Gold fish and aquatic plants here as well.
The Worm Ranch is right down the road from Blue Grass Fish and wildlife area so if you are out fishing and run out of minnows you can run down the road to the worm ranch and stock back up.
Last I looked the price of a dozen shiners was $1.25 at the worm ranch. The bait shops up by patoka lake sell more bait and they price their minnows at about $0.85 a dozen. But the minnows up at Patoka Lake are smaller. They average about 1" or so. The minnows at the Worm ranch can be purchased by the pound which is cheaper to do. I buy about 7 dozen at a time and keep them at home in an aquarium or in two minnow buckets with aerators. You have to change out the water about every day in the summer time but it's worth is if you want to get up early and go fishing. Then you already have your bait ready to go. This way you can get up and get to the lake with bait in hand and don't have to wait for the bait shop to open.
Helpful Hint. Store a few 1 liter bottles of water in the freezer and drop these frozen water bottles into your minnow bucket in the hot summer months. Cold water holds more oxygen and will keep your minnows alive longer in the warmer months.
