Barren was 42-48 today depending on where you were. Fish were biting pretty decent too.
C-land was 44-45 surface temp last Saturday, main lake and large part of major creeks.
I have to admit, I really do not understand water temps that much. I know some general things, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to figure out the nuances of why it matters if the water temperature is 42° or 46°, etc.. It seems that it must be important as much attention as posters seem to pay to it, but I just don't get it. If you know within 10 degrees or so, don't you probably have enough info?
Let me put it this way if the weather conditions are right--lets say it has been cloudy for four days and the temps are the same for those four days and you get a few degrees in water temp. going up ^ you get 20 fish a day-than you could going back 4 days---make any since ?????????/I have to admit, I really do not understand water temps that much. Water temp can mean everything, especially in early spring. I've seen a few degrees and I mean a few make all the difference. The next time you are struggling in early spring with low water temps search the warmest water and see if you don't catch more fish. If you don't have a temp gage, rip rap banks, dark shale banks, lots of wood cover will all absorb and transfer heat to the water. Also water with some color will also be warmer than clear water as well. And here's one more, fish the windy banks that have had wind pushed rollers hitting them for awhile, and hang on.I have to admit, I really do not understand water temps that much.
