As far as I'm concerned (and I might add, this is just my opinion) if you didn't follow the rules of the IGFA and get it weighed on a certified scale with credible witnesses and a fishery biologist to verify it, then it is not a world record. The world record has been broken several times in Cuba. These fish were caught on big live leaches. It has also been broken more than once in California. A woman broke the record there a few years ago, weighed it unofficially, but turned it loose!! The IGFA doesn't want to recognize any of these fish.
I might also add, that I am not 100 percent sure that George Perry's fish was as big as stated. Too much mystery around it. It certainly would not survie today's scrutiny.
Ahhhh, the good ol World Record largemouth bass discussion. I have to weigh in on this one... California or Mexico for sure. There have been too many fish caught in CA that are pushing 20 or over 20. The growth rates of the fish in Mexico is insane!!! I think CA has the edge because of the rainbow trout populations in CA lakes.
A jig or a rainbow trout 10" swimbait will bag the next wrold record!!! Whoever lands it better be ready to go through the official process. Make one wrong move and the fish will be DQ'd. It's almost as if they don't want George Perry's record broken!!!
I dream about being the new record holder... I'll have my best shot this year at Lake El Salto Mexico in early July. Can't wait!!! My jig hooks and swimbait hooks have been sharpened...
