Louisville lakes to be stocked Tuesday 3/6

If you're in or around Louisville, looking for a place to throw in a line until the real fishing starts, there are a few little ponds that are fishable. My Better Half caught 3 small bass and a 12" trout at Miles Park the other day, and on Tuesday, Watterson Park, Cherokee Park Lake, and Fisherman Park are each getting stocked with 2,000 rainbows. In those small lakes (ponds, really) the trout are pretty easy pickins, heck it's not much more challenge than a pay lake at times, but it's still fun to be able to drive just a few minutes and fish from a bank, at least for now

The biggest one. I think it's #1.

I don't know the numberings but the biggest one in the bottom is always the one they stocked them in before. After they stock them it is not hard to tell because they surface a lot so you can see which one they are in.

What do you guys think would be the best to throw at them? Live bait? I've never really fished for them, but wouldn't mind trying.

Try corn. The trout in the Cumberland River will eat that if artificials aren't producing.

Corn, salmon eggs or night crawlers will work. If you are wanting to throw artificial lures, an in-line spinner like a Rooster Tail usually works well. I taught my son the basics of casting and retreiving artificial lures by catching trout at both Otter Creek and Lynn Camp when he was younger.

Tomorrow will be my first time fishing Fisherman's Park, but at Miles, which is an almost identical pond, they seem to take minnows better than anything else. And I've found that #8 hooks with a long shank work well; very few gut-hooks. The biggest trout you can expect to catch is about decent pan-size, with a lot of them barely bigger than fingerlings. There are also largemouth, hybrid bluegill, and catfish stocked in there. I have no idea how big any of those might get. Probably not real big, it's a pretty small lake, a pond, really.

Hey Road Toad, I might be headed out there tomorrow myself. I've been a few times had have caught bluegill and one LM bass (tiny guy, but fought like a trooper - LM crack me up!) If I go, it'll be in the afternoon.
