I used to do the same thing. However I did not last year & did not have a bit of trouble. Mine are $7 each (X6) = $42 (OUCH)
Which wouldn't be so bad,except I always have to buy something else every spring (batteries, tires, its always something).

I do however, keep a set of brand new Sparklies in the boat (just in case)
