Since Denny Brauer came to town recently coupled with the fact that I'm reading his book, I was wondering what lakes some of you consider the best to fish with a jig? I'd like to know what some of you think about jig fishing in Cumberland. I realize there's not a lot of structure on Cumberland, at least not visible structure anyway. What about you Mhall, I know you've spent a few years on Cumberland, how much have you fished it with a jig? I guess there's the vertical structured areas to fish a jig on Cumberland.

I don't have a favorite lake, but I have had times were I couldn't catch fish anywhere and ran up several lakes were the river comes in and flipped trees and brush and often results in a couple of keepers. Time of year didn't really seem to make much of a difference.
I love fishing at Nolin, with a blue & Black 1/4 oz. itsy Bitsy jig with a Blue pork frog.... Seems if I can't get a bite with anything else, I can switch to fishing a jig and seem to save face for the day and catch a keeper or two.....
Anywhere there's water and big fish!
If you know the right spots Herrington can be good fishing the jig early spring--![]()
First off I never hit Cumberland without a jig tied on. Since Cedar has opened that is my favorite jig lake at the present. I fish a jig everywhere theres water. Most productive bait I have used. Ya dont need trees for structure in cumberland, rock piles on slides work just fine. If ya look at the pic on my profile those are cumberland smallies all on a jig on rocky points we had 9 keepers that night to include a 6 lb largemouth and some big kentuckies. It was one of those nights on cumberland that everything was feeding real well.
For me fishing at Nolin with a watermelon bitsy flip beats any thing else out there.
i dont go to the lake without a jig tied on. a green pupkin jig with green pumpkin yum trailer works good at nolin and rough.
Any water that has something to flip at or a point. Give me my Bitsy Bug and Netbait Paca Chunk and look out!

I always tie a jig on no matter where I am fishing. I like KY lake because that is where I do most of my fishing.
It looks like we have a few fans of the jig here...thanks for the responses! I haven't fished with jigs very much. I think I'm going to do just as Denny Brauer suggested in his book, I think I'm going to take nothing but jigs to the lake with me sometime...well, ok...maybe it won't be the only type of lure I take but I need to try and make myself fish a jig and nothing but a jig for awhile.
