Breaking news on world record largemouth chase

It seems now they are going to submit the 25 pound 1 ounce bass for world record consideration. The link is below:

I'm of the belief that if it smells like stinky stuff it usually is and this whole scenario sticks to me. These guys knew what to do if they caught a potential world record and when they did catch one they twiddled their thumbs for a year. Now it seems like...oh wait, you mean we might have a chance at a world record? Wow, lets give it a try...It stinks. JMO!

I agree 100%, something stinks! With a catch of this magnatude (which could shake the fishing world to its core) it should be scrutinized to the limits. There should be a time limit and a physical specimin to be examined for tampering (weights, rocks, etc). If these dunderheads are "awarded" the record it would be a travisty to every legitimate record holder of any species! Cumm'on this is the holy grail of fishing not some skipjack or bluegill. True, George Perry's record is subject to debate, but you must remember that that catch was from a less scientific time when people fished more for sustinance than sport.

All this said, I would not be suprised if the IFGA did receognize the fish as the new world record. It would serve to generate media attention and all of the cash and increased intrest in the sport that comes with it. It would also serve to move the record west and out of the old south, something those "lofty" types who usually inhabit the upper echelons of these kinds of organizations would love to do.

I bet those folks out there are pounding the crap out of Lake Dixon even as we speak looking for that big girl.

    Keep on chuckin'

“I didn't want to lay it (the bass) on the dock and have it stressed more than it was,” Weakley said. “People can take it for what it's worth. That's just how it is.”

This is a quote from an interview after the catch, but you don't think lipping 25lbs would stress a fish much less break its jaw?

I dont know think about it! Its not like your picking up a 3 pounder and adding 22 pounds to it. The fishes jaw is larger, thicker, and built to and for the size of the fish.
HOW MANY FISH HAVE YOU LIPPED? DO YOU THINK YOU DIDNT STRESS THEM OUT BY LIPPING THEM?
And about all the crap about letting it go. The man did what he did rather if it was for a reason or not. There is not a one of you who knows because you were not there. It wouldnt matter if the state of california got 5000 letters in the mail or not if they submit it and it goes nobody is going to change it.
