    Flourcarbon Line

I am curious as to what kind of fishing line most of you use. I am not a professional fisherman by any chance, but I am wondering about types of lines to use in certain situations and certain applications. I just purchased P-line flourcarbon coated 20lb test...can you use it for all applications? Is there a better time to use mono?

I have 3 baitcasting set-ups I use primarily and 1 spinning...how would you recommend to set these up. I like to jig fish, crankbait, spinnerbait, and worm fish. Any recommendations would be a great help.

    Thanks.

Ahhh the age old question...As with other things there will be a ton of different opinions and all of them are right! I personally like to use mono unless i'm throwing into slop or HEAVY cover and then i like braid. I use 7ft rods and set the hook hard so 14-20lb mono works best for me because it stretches more. My experience with F-carbon has been hit and miss. I don't think i have had more bites with FC but for sure have lost more fish because the line broke. It's a hard line and has more memory and will break easier with a nick or some abrasion on the line, IMO. I'll stick with BPS EXCEL mono because i'm totally comfortable with it.
Try the FC on the jig rod because the line is more sensitive, i would go with 14# mono on the crankbait and spinnerbait but it's really up to your style of fishing. Good luck!

    Re: Flourcarbon Line

I recently spooled Vanish Transition onto my two favorite ultralight rigs, and now I'm wishing I'd paid more attention to the posts on this forum warning against it. Way too much memory, and like DJD mentioned about FC's in general, it seems like the slightest nick or abrasion reduces it to about 1/2 lb. test.

Question: Do you have to use the Trilene knot on the P-line fluorocarbon-coated line?

    Re: Flourcarbon Line

You're probably referring to P-line Flouroclear. This is a flourocarbon coated co-polymer I believe. I've had good success with this line fishing for smallies in the creeks using 6 lb test. I've found that it has fairly low memory and is low vis. Although it's a little more expensive, I like it better than some of the name brand monofilaments that I've tried. That's just my experience. May not be the same for everyone else.

Forgot to mention that flourocarbon coated is not the same as pure flourocarbon. It's a hybrid that is supposed to have qualities similar to mono and pure flourocarbon.

P-line Flouroclear, it's a co-polymer and it's the stuff, I love it. I do retie my knots farely often though as I tend to use lighter test lines.

    Re: Flourcarbon Line

i ike to use 8lbs stren on my rod used for crank baiting. i use 12lbs p-line cxx on my rod used for jigs and texas rigs same on spinner baits. on my spinning rod i like to use 6 to 8lbs p-line flouroclear. i dont use anything over 14 lbs around here. o if i am fishing a fluke or slug-go i will use flouroclear because flouroclear sincks faster and gets a little more depth when fished weight less. i am not a pro eaither but that seems to work best for me and how i like to fish. hope that helps

    Re: Flourcarbon Line

If you use P-Line Flourcarbon and Seaguar Invisx side by side you see more memory in the P-Line, but both are good flourcarbon lines. P-Line is supposed to have less stretch than seaguar but as a weekend warrior I can not tell a difference and knock on wood have not come unbuckled on a fish with it. If you want to step up and spend a little more try the sunline from Japan.
