Needing to replace a couple reels. Currently using the old style Curados and love them. Are the new ones worth the price? Thanks, 300ZX.
I have one of the new curado 7.1 high speed and I like the reel. However, I just purchased a new Abu Garcia Revo SX 7.1:1 and it is really sweet and cast like a dream. It is $50 cheaper than the Curado. If you want to pay 199.99 for a reel try the Revo STX.
I dreamed for a Curado(old style) and have had better reels(for my use). I had an old Abu-Garcia that I had forgooten about, put it on a rod and like it better than the Curado.
I bought a Pflueger Trion reel and it is great. They sell them BPS or Dicks or for $99.00. I also got 2 Johnny Morris reels at the big sale at BPS and they are nice reels too. If I had to pay full price for the BPS reels I would get the Trion reel hands down.
Go with the new Curado's. IMHO, they can't be beat! I have sold all 18 of my old Curados and purchased 14 new ones--some of the 100's and some of the 200's---some of the 200's were in the 5 to 1 and the others in the 7.1 to 1. I like them all. Might even try the Shimano Crucial rods too---they make a great match.
Not quite the money or the status symbols, but I picked up a couple of the BPS Rick Clunn baitcasters...cast like a dream. I actually like the rods that they come on too.
Picked up a new Revo yesterday just to spin it and it felt great. Great size....I was also told they had a problem recently and shut the production down until they fixed the problem. I guess that's why they are harder to find right now but all is well.
I'm still a Shimano man but that Revo seems like a great reel.....time will tell.
still using the old Curados and will continue to do so as long as they make the replacement parts... the new Curados (7:1) are sweet but just don't feel the same ....... oh well, different strokes for differert folks...tight lines
Supposedly (or so I've been told) the new Shimano Citica Reels are pretty much what the old style Curado's used to be...the new Citica's are around $120.00 dollars.
Everyone who's posted here has their own opinion and everyone has suggested some mighty fine reels...You probably wouldn't go wrong with any of them. Probably what it's going to come down to is how much you're willing to spend...Someone mentioned the Shimano Crucial Rods as a good match, that suggestion is dead on the money. I have an old style Curado on a Crucial Rod and I'm here to tell you what now...it's a nice combination.
Thanks for the replies. I've also been wondering about the new abu reels. But now I will proba be holding off. Got hurt at work last week and went to the ortho. specialist today and probably have torn cart. in rt shoulder and a torn or detached muscle on top of my forearm will know more after mri. Good luck and catch one for me. Thanks, Chris.
i have two new Curados mounted on Crucial rods and in my opinion nothing could be better. Very light and very sensitive well worth the money...IMHOGo with the new Curado's. IMHO, they can't be beat!
