    Cedar Creek Crappie

I know some of you guys fish this lake frequently and know it well. At Friday's KDFWR commision meeting they voted to do away with the 9-inch size limit on crappie. Anybody know why they would do this? I have never seen the lake, much less fished it, so I don't know what the circumstances are. New regulation won't take place until March 1, 2008.

That seems strange. They admit in their 2007 forecast that there are STILL not really many 9" fish in there. It could be that they either think there are too many small fish and that's preventing them from growing or possibly that people aren't following the 9" rule anyway???

I'd have to agree with "gurl" on this one. It's probably a little of both. Sounds like they've given up on the Crappie. Still, I think lowering the size limit to 8" would be better than removing the whole size limit law. I assume the 15/day creel limit will still be in effect. ........ cp

    Re: Cedar Creek Crappie

I was on the lake most of the winter while they were doing there crappie survey, they had crappie nets out for 3 weeks and moved them every few days and shocked the lake also. What they told me at the end of the survey was the lake had way to many small crappie and very few keepers. She also said that if they did not remove the size limit that there would be even less keepers because the lake could not support that many small crappie. So in a nut shell this is the fast way to reduce the amount of 7 and 8 inch fish and when numbers of small fish gets in check they will put a size limit back on them.

    Re: Cedar Creek Crappie

Maybe it will help cos I know it is full of lil crappie and no problem to catch. I bet we caught 60 to 75 down there 1 day and had 2 that was 9 inchs. All of em caught in a 200 ft radius. Fun day being out. Keep us informed to know what the new size limit and creel will be. I will help cut the population down some if thats what they want.
