    Patoka 4/9-13

I am headed to Patoka from 4/9-13 for bass fishin', no tourney, just fishin' and was hoping to get some advice, tips, spots etc. Any help is appreciated. I have been there, but in the fall.

This time of the year the fish should be shallow and enjoying the warmer shallower waters. You might even catch a few big crappie if you are fishing the shallows with crank baits.

Fish long sloping points, Outside bends in the weed beds and submerged islands and creek channel bends.

I am more a crappie fisherman these days and don't' chase the largemouth bass much these days. But I fished for bass all my life until recently.

Look for the edge of standing timber along the old Patoka River Channel especially in areas where there can be a sharp turn in the old river bed. Old road bed that enter the lake and cross a bay can also hold fish.

I sometimes catch bass in my crappie brush piles using tight line technique with small jigs and or minnows. Maybe you can catch some of these bass using weedless baits. Swim baits or plastic worms.

And the back ends of the bays where the creek runs into the bay is a good spot to check out especially right after a heavy rain. The fish will be up in there looking for food that's washing out of the stream into the lake.

Not sure what the grass beds are like at Patoka right now. Can't remember what type of grass or submergent vegetation Patoka has. Each type of weed grows on different substrate and at various levels depending upon the water clarity. Patoka has three major regions. The upper 1/3 of the lake above Walls which is similar to the Lick Fork and Little Patoka River regions. The middle part of the lake around the Newton Steward Area and the **** area which is the deepest water in the lake.
