Finally got a chance to try it out. I put in at the High Bridge ramp and paddled my kayak all the way to the dam (except for one short portage). Wow - what a long paddle. The only fish we caught, though, were in the KY river and not the Dix.

Was that release you speak of for power generation or for flood control??? I can completely understand a release like that for flood control...........

What did you use?? Did you see a lot of fish? That water is usually so clear you can see a BUNCH of fish!
Considering we went up and back in about 4 hours, we didn't throw a lot. We saw a few trout above the first riffle. Actually, we saw a lot of them surfacing. We mostly threw different crankbaits. We caught 6 LM, but those were all on the KY. My brother caught one trout near the dam.
That paddle is definitely a workout! I love paddling down the riffle - I could do that over and over again!
As far as the trout goes, it's hard to beat roostertails or Rapala Countdowns.
Did you fish around in the DEEP pool below the usually dry waterfall? I've seen some monster bass in there before!
There was actually 4 or 5 people fishing right around the riffle and the pool you mention. Since the water is actually a lot cooler in that area, I figure that the bass at this time of year don't really want to be there. They are probably looking for the warmer water. Later in the summer, I'll bet that area is really packed with fish.
