    Cell Phone at the lakes.

    I know this is a little off the topic but, I am switching cell phone companies from Nextel to either Cingular or Verision (sp). Which one works at the lakes the best. I have heard good things about verision but would like some first hand knowledge. I mostly go to Rough, Nolin, Barren and KY. Thanks Ryan.

    I have Cingular and I get good coverage at all those lakes. Certain areas of the lakes I wont have a signal because of the hills, but if I really need to make a call I can usually move a little and that takes care of the problem.

    I also have Cingular and fish these lakes and also Green River Lake and Cumberland, I can get a good signal on all these lakes but will lose it some on Cumberland and Green, the rest are fine, and since Cingular has merged, they probally have access to more towers around these areas.

    I have both Cingular and Verizon, Cingular is my personal phone and have had very few places where I didn't get a signal, The Verizon wireless is my company phone there are alot of places I can't get a signal (even within a 1/4 mile of a Verizon cell site)!!! My choice for my use is Cingular

    You actually want to be reachable when your fishing? I do my best to not answer my phone on the lake. LOL

    I have Cingular and I do not have a signal at Walnut Creek or Brownsford end of the lake. I also have good signal everwhere I've fished on Nolin.

    Cingular works fine on Barren, Cumberland, Barkley and Kentucky. The only place I have fished that Cingular does not work is DALE HOLLOW and anywhere within about 8 miles of the lake. Big huge dead spot on the Cingular system and Verizon won't let them use the tower and until Cingular gets permission to put up a tower, Verizon is the only one to use at Dale.

    Elnuts;
    Bluegrass Cellular also works at the Holler or anywhere else Verizon does because they now have a tower sharing agreement.But the mid-lake section is still spotty back in the creeks, I have to use a booster and trucker antenna on my houseboat at Hendricks Dock to get a signal.Same for Verizon users there. Have heard rumors of a new tower somewhere on Hwy 61 that would really help. Cingular now uses GSM signal, and it will only work on their network, most other companys don't use GSM yet, therefore they can't share towers.

    Thanks for the info on Bluegrass Cellular. I think I remember seeing a store for them in Burkesville downtown somethere on the right if you were coming from the lake going thru town. I will have to check them out. I fish Dale a bunch in the winter and mostly by myself which is not very smart with 50 degree water and 30 degree air temps, but that is what I have to do to fish my favorite style, FNF. Hopefully, Bluegrass has a good cheap short term plan that I can buy every winter.
