Monday - Cedar Creek - hit the lake early - it was windy - 1st fish came early on a jig - 18" - 3lb largemouth. Caught the fish in about 4-5 foot of water on a flat. Black and blue jig with paca chunk craw. It took awhile to get another fish. Began throwing a spinner bait in the wind. Only caught 2 more small fish. My dad began to throw a chub firetiger crankbait on ultralight tackle and caught everything from bluegill, crappie, to several bass. He caught 2 nice bass throwing on a flat into wind blown line of trees. Fish were stacked right by each other. Crappie were to small. All in all a good day of fishing. Had to quit a little early had some trolling motor battery problems. It ran wide open all day fighting the wind. Still having trouble catching large number of bass at CC like others talk about.
Tuesday - Lake Cumberland - Fishing Creek - started in the back of the creek. Lots of crappie fishing going on. First bass lg mouth 13" caught on texas red bandit crankbait. 2nd bass caught in 6-8 feet of water on structure with a charteuse/white silver bladed spinner bait. First keeper, Fish was 15" lgmouth. All day we would drag a minnow to locate crappie. We hung a 14" 1.8lb crappie near lunch time. We then went to crappie fishing until later in the day. We did not catch anymore crappie at that location, moved to Clifty creek in the trees. Located crappie and began to catch. Caught several crappie in this one location, only added 4 keeper sized crappie to the boat. Nice size crappie though. After using all the minnows and the heat of sun letting up, went back to trying to locate bass. Only caught 2 more small bass with a spinnerbait. We did not do real well bass fishing, but had fun catching several other types of fish. On the day we caught a little of everything bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, and even 1 gar!! I need some help in locating and catching nice bass at Cumberland. People say they do...but I have not ever seen them or been a part of a good day at Cumberland. Any help would be appreciated. Hope you enjoyed the fishing reports.
As for Spring break fishing the weather has put an end to it. As well as the wife and kids. Must spend some time at home. Might go fishing on Saturday afternoon. Not sure where...maybe Lake Linville??? I have never fished there.
