Don and Fishincreek gave you the main info. The only thing that I would add is that you need to place your plug within 2 feet of the bank, or closer. I like to parallel the bank with my boat and make casts parallel to the bank as much as possible. The alewifes will be right on the bank, so a plug that is much further out is not going to get hit.
