I have some buddies that have been absolutely whacking the shellcrackers! I'm talking 50+ a day!!! The key to their success has been pea gravel or similar size gravel bottoms in the 3 - 5 ft of water, using jigheads tipped with a piece of nightcrawler, tightlining. I've also heard word of the catfish starting to show up in the areas in which they spawn. The best bait you can use would be the small minnows - they're big enough the little bluegill can't eat them, but the bigger ones will gladly take them, along with shellcrackers, and catfish! I'm heading out this weekend on Barkley and packing about 10 dozen small minnows - I should have all I want in about three hours or less, depending on the fish's mood!
