    Lake Safety

I am wondering how safe it is to be on lake Cumberland? Is there a chance the dam could break loose while they are working on it?

While anything is possible, if the dam were to breach, I would rather be on the lake than below the dam, while the current would be extreme it wouldn't **** you through the breach, it would just **** the water out from underneath you, you would have no troubles beaching the boat. Remember a breach if it were to happen would be a 5 hour process, you would notice an increase in the current long before you were in immediate danger. Don't let these type of worries stop you from heading to the lake, I assure you its plenty safe and open for business.

I remember seeing a documentary on the history channel about a salt mine that drilled under a lake punctured the bottom of the lake and created an crazy whirpool I'm not sure the name of the lake or where it was did anyone else see it?? they had some great pics I don't believe anyone was hurt which was unbelievable I could be wrong...one of those late night things if you know what I mean!!!

Im thinking if I remember right that was lake ponchartrain (sp?) and it used to be fresh water but that hole lowered the water level enough that it is actually salt water now, and yes that was nutso to watch. Yes is you were s ucked down in there you would be screwed but I think you could feel the water moving long before it go dangerous on C-land and beach the boat with little ease.
