    tournament winnings?

I don't believe this belongs under the tournament board, so I'll try it here. Me and my buddy want to start fishing tournaments. Is there an unwritten rule on how to split the winnings (if there are any)? Should the boat owner get more than his buddy? Since he is the one who has to make the payments on the boat. How do you guys, that have won money, split the winnings?

    Re: tournament winnings?

When we used to go to tournys I suppied the transport, boat and truck. He supplied food and drinks and paid entry fees. This was before the price of gas was so high. We now fish tournys only at my home lake, Beaver, we use my johnboat and split on gas. Under both these conditions we have all ways split any winnings 50/50. One suggestion now may be if your partner has a truck let him tow your boat to split costs. Just remember you are working as a team.

We always split everything down the middle boat and truck gas entry fee and winnings. Usually the problem I hear the most is big fish and what to do with the money for it. I usually split it with my partner cause he had just as good of a chance to catch it as me.

Everything 50/50. If you are the boat owner though, don't forget to add a little extra for your oil, if your motor burns it.

If you are boat owner then take 95% of winnings. Forget the other guy he needs to buy his own boat.

Are you paying all the entry fees Beevo? . With an attitude like that I bet you fish alone alot.....
A good rule of thumb ,you use your boat you supply the gas ,your partner pays the entry fees . Split the winnings 50/50. Vice versa if you both have a boat. Some entries are more than others but they all work out in the long run, OF course if the entry gets to be over 100 dollars then the boater should kick in a little of the entry.

If your friends split the winnings and be fair on all costs. When you stay out of town split the lodging and buy your own food. It's easy when your fishing with a friend. Good luck!

Nah jaybyrdie I don't pay those entry fees my sponsors do. The ride along bums that call themselves fishermen are happy with 5% of the take.

My buddy and myself fish in Fishers of Men. We use my boat and my truck. Gas (truck and boat) is split down the middle as well the entry fee, hotel room etc. He catches big fish, I get half the pot. and Vice versa and the same goes for catching the most weight. The way I see it it is my boat and my truck and I enjoy fishing the tourneys and I also enjoy my boat with my family. I don't think it is his responsibilty to pay for my boat or my truck. I am just grateful to have a good partner that I can trust and not to mention can catch a few ever once in a while. Heck most of the time we never win a nickel but the experiance is 3/4 of the battle. Anyway charge what you want. After all it is your truck and boat, however good partners are hard to come by. Good luck

    Re: tournament winnings?

The cost of the boat is not even considered. I do this 2 ways dfepending on who and where. If it is a cheap local they pay the entry and i pay gas and we split winnings. others I take that may not be real fisherman I pay it all and keep it all. However big money outings we split gas room entry and winnings ALL winnings no matter who catches what
