    Hooking-up Trollimg Motor Batteries

Just bought a 2000 17' Javelin, and man I'm in love. I have a question though. It has a two bank charger. I have two trolling motor batteries and of course a cranking battery. Should I run one lead from the charger to the cranking bat and the other to one of my deep cycles? Should I run the two deep cycles parallel ( I have a 12v 55# minnkota), and if so should I hook up both batteries to the charger, or just one? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have never had an on board charger. As far hooking up your trolling motor, connect your batteries positive to positive and negative to negative. Hook your positive red trolling motor wire to the positive side of the battery and the negative (black) to the negative side of the battery. I think the motorguide website has a diagram. Leave a few fish for the rest of us!

    I'm in a similar situation. I have a 17ft Javelin, 55lb thurst 12v minn kota, and a 2 bank charger.

The way my boat is wired, my fishfinder and GPS on dash run off the cranking battery, so do the pumps (bilge and livewell), and I think the lights do as well. Depending on usage, sometimes my cranking battery needs a little charging.

I have hooked one bank to my trolling motor battery and the other to the cranking battery. The cranking battery usually shows full charge after a little bit of charging.

I normally don't fish for extended periods of time, but if I do I will add another backup battery for the trolling motor and then hook the charger to both TM batteries.

But since i only have the 2 right now, i've got them hooked up to both.

    Blessed Fishin

What kind of motor is on it. (Size and year) some of the newer motors have 40 and even 60 amp alternators on them. Depending on the motor you may never have to charge the cranking battery
