    Towing

I pull a 21' Skeeter with a dual console and all the gear. My truck is a 99 Chevy 1500 v-8 4x4. Should I pull with the tow/haul on or just drive normal? Thanks Ryan.

    Re: Towing

Pulling a boat always use the tow/haul. If you are in hilly terrian and the transmission is doing alot of down and up shifting tow in 3rd and still use tow/haul. Frequent up and down shifts create heat and that is the number 1 killer of a transmission.

Here is how the tow/haul works on a 99 Chevy. With tow/haul on you change the pressure of the shift and the rpm at which it shifts. As an experiment turn it on without the boat and you will feel how much harder the shift is and you will notice how the motor winds up to a higher rpm before the transmission shifts. You dont notice it as much with the load of a boat behind you but you will feel the differance in a empty truck. With tow haul on the transmission does shift through all gears even into overdrive.

For the record I am not a transmission mechanic but I had the transmission overhauled in my 99 Chevy and I questioned my mechanic about the tow/haul and what I explained is his words. I broke the sungear which is repairable. I tow alot so I thought since I had 90,000 miles on my transmission I had him to overhaul it.

I agree...have the same model truck, z-71 and stratos with alot of gear. On mine it seems to shift smoother the first time from take off if you get on it pretty good to get your speed and rpm's up. After that you are rolling pretty good and it shifts out real good.

2001 chevy 5.3L 4x2, I put it in 3rd and go. Don't trust the tow/haul myself after doing that for 2 years and burning out an overdrive gear in tranny with only 55K mi and fluid and filter changes.
