Where might I find a detailed map of the Ohio River?
Thanks!

You can call the Corps of Engineers Louisville office. They used to sell navigation maps for the entire river. No details on bottom topography, but shows all ramps, wing dams, feeder creeks, mileage, beacons,etc...lots of good info. They sold for around $15-$20 if memory serves. Also, I believe you can view and print the same maps in a .PDF format on the Corps website for free.

This links to all the printable maps. You can print an entire book or select only the pages you need.

There is a CD put out By Ed Harp that shows the whole Ohio River, from Pittsburg to the Mississippi River. I believe you can purchase it on THEOHIORIVER DOT COM
I called the Corps of Engineer's last year. They don't sell the Navigation Books of the Ohio anymore. I was wanting one myself, but went to the Corps web site and printed off all the sections of the river I fish and now have a map of the Ohio from Florence, Ky. south to Rocky Point......
Works for me, plus now that I got my GPS unit, the map is only good for telling the mileage between creeks and ramps.
This is good to know.
How's fishing on the Ohio in the Louisville area? DH doesn't want to bother with it, but I'm thinking there has to be some good fishing around these parts. We got a small boat (16') last year, and I would like to at least give it a good try.
DH is partial to bass, but I'll fish for just about anything <g>.
Thanks, again!

The Ohio River has excellent fishing in it...You can catch just about anything you like around the banks of the Ohio. There are even some nice size crappie, Bass, and Stripers up to 30 lbs. or better....
I like throwing a shadrap crankbait no.# 5 size in shad pattern, this bait will catch anything from gar, crappie, catfish, drum, white bass, large & small mouth bass, bluegill and stripers. Just a good all around bait to use for fishing the river.... G/L
I'm glad to hear the Ohio River can provide good fishing. Now I just have to convince DH. He's also concerned about the quality of the fish, though, as he'd been told, many years ago, that the fish weren't fit to eat. I have to wonder if that's really true. The Ohio River has excellent fishing in it...You can catch just about anything you like around the banks of the Ohio. I've not tried the shadrap crankbait yet, but I'll be sure to have a couple when I get to go fish the Ohio.
Thanks a bunch!
