Fished mid lake Mon night from 10p until 9a. It was dead calm with very few shad flipping. We caught a couple of Ky's and had a couple of blow ups b4 midnight. Only heard about 2 stripes bust on top all night. The full moon finally went out of view about 245 but is was still very light until 430. Only saw 3 other boats on the water. Threw slivers, redfins and gizz4 all night with nothing to show but the 2 Ky's. Caught shad right b4 daylight and pulled baloons right after daylight. Caught a 4lb smallie, that we released, 2 more Ky's, a drum, a short stripe and had numerous pulldowns with no hook up. I think most of the pulldowns were gar as there were good numbers that were porpoiseing. All activity died once the cloudcover burned off about 8a.
The action was nothing like it has been on my last 3 trips but I've had worse luck before too. Hopefully the shad spawn isn't over. According to one of the locals the bite is still going strong. Maybe all the Memorial Day traffic had them down. I might try Cland one more time next week but am torn between Cland striper/walleye and full moon in June on Dale.
Been hit or miss at night for me this year. Not always on the usual banks. I've found them one night on a bank and hit it the next night without hearing a blow up. Caught them this weekend, mid lake. You had to be on banks with shad on them. Stripers were up after 2 and as late as 5:30. The alewife spawn should be over soon.
