Just got back from Barren this weekend. I had not been on Barren for several years, the last time I was there I was too young to understand the big bass at Barren.
First day on Thursday went hunting for some meat to stink up the pan. Fished in the evening caught 13 gills on crickets, tight line. Bass fished for about 2 hours around the narrows caught 1 nice 15" lgmouth and lost a big fish!!
Friday, went out again after the gills. Caught 57 and 2 cats...great day. Caught majority of fish on popeyes tipped with wax worms and also on crickets with bobber. We fished back of a cove near the narrows. Lots of fun.
Saturday...spent the day after bass. On Friday we saw a big girl coming off the nest near a stump. Went back Saturday morning and hooked up while swimming a jig. She was 19" and weighed 3.2lbs. Great fish and fun a fight. Later in the morning moved to the dam area. Hooked up on 2 nice fish. First fish was 19 1/2" smallmouth 3.5lbs and 4 cast later caught 17 1/2" largemouth weighing 2.15lbs. Had one more that morning that was lost on plastic craw, had a nick in the line and came unglued on the hookset!!!Went in at 12pm, not a bad morning at all. All fish caught on jigs. Lots of fun...first time ever on Barren fishing for bass...I am hooked. Can't wait to go back. Already have a trip planed for the end of the summer. For a rookie it made the blood pressure go up and increased the heartrate!
