There is a good interview with the winner of the All American on basszone.com. I like that he said he didn't really fish during the official practice day. He just wanted to know how far he could go on a tank of gas. I've always wanted to do that, but right now that is $200 worth of gas and oil.

You have to remember, it wasn't his boat and he wasn't the one paying for the gas. LOL, you might make the gamble if it was on someone else's dime.
I'm sure all of the boats were filled up with gas by FLW at the start of each day of the tournament. Rocky Point is 125 miles from Louisville, and they had to gas up there before running back, so I assume the competitors had to pay the gas bill to get back. I doubt that the competitors were worried about gas money, though. If it were me, I wouldn't be.
No, they didn't have to pay for the gas at Rocky Point either. It works just like the Classic, they had an account with FLW Outdoors, and it will be billed, but the anglers do not have to pay for anything.
Where abouts is Rocky Point and Deer Creek located?
