    The Canal at Ky/Barkley Lake

Does anyone fish the canal at Eddyville?I'll be down there next weekend at KY lake fishing and was wondering about fishing the canal in the evenings off of the bank.

Thumbs up Re: The Canal at Ky/Barkley Lake

I've fished the canal. If you take Shrimp and leeches you catch Catfish and Smallmouth.

That's an awesome smallmouth hole if the current is moving through there...I like using minnows myself....

Any way of knowing when the current might be flowing?

If you need to get out of the wind for awhile the canal can be quite nice!

It's all rip rap, so be careful! Remember that snakes love rip rap too!

There's a canal overlook that you can park at on the northern bank, and then on the southern bank (LBL side) there's a big loop that you can drive around and park off of called Kentucky Lake Drive or Loop or something like that...it's the first right as soon as you cross the bridge going into LBL.

As far as knowing what the current is doing, sometimes you can tell by checking the lake levels...one is usually a little higher than the other which causes current through it....then there's also the power generation that goes on that pulls a small amount of current through it....most times you just have to go to know.

    Good luck!

Oh, I almost forgot...if you're there for the "magic hour" right before dark, keep an eye out for some surface action. Usually in the summer you can whack schooling largemouth with a white Zoom Super Fluke along the rip rap, especially near the flat on the LBL side closest to Ky Lake. Usually around that rock lined ditch is the best because it's really close to the drop. I've also seen a lot of bank fishermen there at night as well, not sure how they do there, but the bank isn't quite as steep and you can actually set up a folding chair there and hang a latern in a nearby tree.
