Cumberland Night Fishing 10-11 June 2007

    Here's some highlights:

    a. Shad is easy to get if you go to the 20-30 foot part of the back of the Creeks. Hang a light, wait for bait cloud to show on graph, kill the light and trhrow and let it drop to bottom. Back of Greasy produced big time. Note: A single throw brought up 100 baits, but you have to sort through a bunch of small ones, and will end up with 30-40 goodies.
    b. Allegator 2 ramp is still very useable. Call before you go, they had a gas line break and were out of gas Sunday morning. I'd bet its fixed by now.
    c. Next to nobody had shiners, not Basspros, Jamestown dock, LakePointe, and Adams had just a pound left. Believe it or not, State Dock had great supply of Shiners in Striper fishing 4-5 inch size.
    d. No luck on live bait pulling boards over main lake channel at 20-40 feet from dusk to 12 midnight, mouth of Wolfe, and Lilly.
    e. Shad came up and started flipping Sat and Sun nights after midnight, got really going by 2 am and lasted through 4 am when we quit each night. There was some popping on wall acrossfrom pontoon dock first turn in Greasy, some popping and caught 2 each short fish Stripers on Wall that seperates State dock from Jamestown. At 3 am on Saturday night, we cam in Wolfe, banged a right to go up the creek, took the next left, then a right and fished the long gravel banks with shad going nuts there. Caught one short fish there, but sneaked around the next left hand corner to the wall headed toward Alle 2, and the action got crazy. First cast of a Redfin netted a top water hit and a short Striper. Second cast was with a Zora spook, and 3 twitches got 3 hits, and finally a hook up. 5 fish total in about an hour, on Redfin, baby Redfin, and spooks.
    f. Room, we stayed at Lake pointe and the room was immacculate, excellent service, Barry was cordial and helpful, and rates for a queen room were very reasonable. With the ramp being in great shape, I'd with confidence recommend Lakepointe and Allegator 2 as a destination.

Summary: Topwater at night is not dead yet, Allegator and Lakepointe are alive and exceptionally well, and do not forget State dock if you need emergency bait. Shad can be had, but you will sort smaliies to get to keepers.

    Happy hunting.......spock out.

Didn't bump into any walleye, but did see several folks with lights out on teh points at the mouth of Wolfe and Lilly, suspect thats what hey may have been after.
