    Ohio River, Newburgh Ramp...

Thought I would head up to the dam to try and catch some fish the other day and put in a Newburgh ramp. What a joke. I gave them $4 to lauch my boat, park in 3" of dust and have my wife wade down the ramp to get in. No dock in yet, but we are only half way thru summer I guess

The lot had a total of 5 vehicles in it, including mine, but the beach was full across the river. Don't guess Newburgh realizes that those people are paying more to put in at Angel Mounds and E-ville.

Yeah it was closed all the way up until memorial day weekend. I was there then and it was very bad, like you said 3'' of dirt and dust. I was back there this morning and I figured they would have it cleaned off by now but it was still the same. We did not pay this morning. Do they have someone there during the day? I didnt see anyone but we were there at 5:30a.m. and left before noon.

I have never seen anyone there specifically to watch and make sure people pay. Last week, there was a Newburgh police officer sitting in the lot by 662 and while we were unloading, he made a pass thru looking for parking stubs. I assume. That is what it looked like at least. Wonder why they don't just take the fire truck down there and clean it off.

Did you catch anything this morning?

The launch ramp on the Ohio River at Newburgh, IN is a disgrace. Last time I was there the parking lot had 3ft of mud covering the concrete. Now you say it's got 3" of dust! That figures. Hey Newburgh City leaders do you ever take a look at the Launching Area and think, "Man this place could use a good fire truck hose down and cleaning?"

There are two other launch ramps near by that can be used instead of giving Newburgh any money. I won't be using that stupid launch ramp facility anytime soon. Besides I prefer to stay out of the River.

You can launch at Yankee Town or Angle Mounds Boat ramp. I guess they still are charging a fee to launch at Angle Mounds. We payed out Tax dollars to the Federal Goverment and they built that ramp. The county or city took over and then leased it out to some private interprise who then charges way too much to lauch from the ramp that WE PAID FOR! Talk about corruption! They claim the fees is for the upkeep and maintainance of the ramp area. Duh! You can get some kid to cut that grass and pick up the trash for a lot less than what they charge everyone to launch a boat there.

Last time I launched at Angel Mounds, I think it cost me $8. Short rid to the dam, but it was already about 5:00 in the afternoon. Yankeetown isn't bad, if you can get thru the lock in a reasonable amount of time.

$8 is way too much to pay just to lauch a boat into the river. Who's running the operations at Angle Mounds? Must be someone who wants to retire at 40 YOA. That's twice what I used to be a while ago. I must admit that it's been ages since I took my boat to launch at Angle Mounds. I try to stay off the River these days. My little 16 ft boat is not designed to do well on the River or Big water with big waves.

Looks like I am going to stick to fishing in places where I can launch my boat for free or at a very low price.

I'll let those rich SOB's in their yaughts have Angle Mounts and the River to boat on.

I launched at angel mounds about a month ago about 5a.m. and the drop box had no slips or envelopes for money so we just put in. The grass was not cut and the docks were not up yet. When we got back there was a guy that asked us if we paid so we paid him then. He said its under new ownership and they are improving everything. I think its $5 for under 27ft or something like that.

By the way we only caught 2 flatheads at the river on Wednesday. One was 8lbs the other about 10. Caught one on shrimp and the other on live shade fishing off the bottom. The only place we found shade was right on the edge of the dam. Talked to other boaters out there and everyone said they were having trouble catching shade as well.

$5 is not as bad at $8 to launch.
    Thanks for the information.

I put an umbrella on my boat. Take a couple of electrical conduit braces or brakets and a short section of schedule 40 3/4" ID pipe and attach it to the back of your bass seat on your boat. Stick a gulf umbrella inside the pvc pipe. Drill out a hole into the side of the pipe that passes though only one of the pipe's walls. Tape the hole with a drill tap and then you can screw a metal threaded stud into the hole. I got mine at the Ace Hardware store. Use a fine thread type bolt with a flattened head that can be used to tighten the bolt with your fingers. You can then control how high or low the umbrella fixs down into the PVC pipe.

This way you can fish during the hot summer months and have your own shade on your boat. It will work if you position the boat just right so that the shade falls on your head.

Or you can buy one of these:
